Happy Thanksgiving!
Today is Thanksgiving and we all have so much to be thankful for. As you know, Thanksgiving is followed by Black Friday and Cyber Monday the US’s world-famous and biggest shopping days of the year – it is consumerism at its finest (or is it at its worst?).
Giving Tuesday
Giving Tuesday was founded in 2012 by New York’s 92nd Street Y in partnership with the United Nations Foundation. It harnesses the power of social media and collaboration. Stick with me to the end of this video and I will share my favorite charity and why it is so dear to my heart.
If you’re like me, you struggle with who to donate to and what organizations will ensure that your charity dollars get to where you want them to go and have the greatest impact. Today I what to give a shout out to some local Anthem charities for which I have seen the great work they do in the community that I live in and love so much:
#1. Anthem Cares through Service
Referred to locally as ACTS, this charity serves the needs of the people of Anthem who for the most part have unusual and emergency (short-term) needs. ACTS is fueled by volunteers who give freely of their time and talents.
#2. St. Rose Food Pantry
St. Rose Food Pantry is operated by St. Rose Church in Anthem, it gratefully accepts food donations and distributes it to those in need in Anthem, Tramonto, New River, Desert Hills and Black Canyon City areas.
#3. Anthem Pets
This is another volunteer organization based in Anthem, it provides rescue and welfare services to abandoned and abused animals. Anthem Pets volunteers work hard to restore health to these animals and where appropriate to find them new loving homes. Anthem Pets serves the areas of Anthem, Tramonto and south to Dove Valley
#4. Daisy Mountain Firefighters Charities
I had the great pleasure of attending the Daisy Mountain Firefighters Charity Ball earlier this year and saw first hand how hard this incredible group of first responders work to provide a safety net for others in need due to a sudden illness or tragedy. The heroism of our firefighters does not stop at fighting fires or running in when the rest of us are running out. In the words of the organizers themselves: For each of us, it is more than being a firefighter, the friend or family member of a firefighter; it’s being a fighter for those who need help.
#5. Daisy Mountain Veterans
their mission is to honor, support, and thank the men and women who have served and continue to serve in the US Military. This shout-out would not be complete without acknowledgement and recognition of Anthem’s own, award winning Veteran’s Memorial
My Favorite Charity
I promised to share with you my own personal favorite charity so here it is: Shriners Hospitals for Children. I am passionate about this great cause because the first man I ever loved, my Dad, devoted a huge part of his life to this important and honorable charity.
To make a long, incredible story short, the Shriners Hospitals for Children operate 22 non-profit hospitals across North America where they offer medical care to children regardless of the family’s ability to pay and without regard to race, color, creed, sex or sect, disability, or national origin. Their patients are at the very core of what they do. Children inspire them to improve the lives of children and their families.
I am proud of my Dad and the countless hours he spent raising money for the Shriners Hospitals for Children and am continually awed by the incredible stories of survival, strength, heroism and bravery, the miracles that happen at the Shrine Hospitals for Children every single day.
This Thanksgiving I want to impress upon you the importance of showing gratitude for the lives of abundance that we live by giving to those who are less fortunate and for what ever reason find themselves in need.
See YOU next Thursday!
