Valentine’s Day: Yay or Nay?
So, like I said at the start of this post, I’m not big on Valentine’s Day. I don’t want to make reservations to eat in a crowded restaurant, I don’t want to think about my husband spending way too much money on flowers, and I’m definitely not waiting around for valentine’s day to get my chocolate fix!
That being said, I don’t want to sound like a total Grinch, I am all for spending time with your partner and trying new things together. So, whether you’ve just swiped right on each other or you’ve been married for years, I hope you’ll get out and enjoy some, or all, of these fun date ideas in and around Phoenix.
#1: Go for a Hike
My husband and I do a lot of hiking, and I love how it lets us disconnect from work and catch up with each other without distractions. Since Valentine’s Day is on a Friday and most people have to work, you may want to consider a sunrise or sunset hike! There are so many amazing hiking spots throughout Phoenix and Arizona, there is no way I could list them all here. We like to use the All Trails app to plan our hikes. Just by way of example, Papago Park and South Mountain both have incredible sunset views for you to enjoy. If you’re planning to head out for a hike you may want to download our free guide: 10 Tips for Hiking in the Sonoran Desert.
#2: Desert Botanical Gardens
I have been to the Desert Botanical Gardens a couple of times and have loved it. It is such a beautiful place to walk around together, take photos and relax. Be sure to check their events calendar online to see if there are any specific exhibits or events you want to catch.
#3: Go Indoor Skydiving
Okay, so I wasn’t brave enough to say go Skydiving, because, one, it’s expensive, and two, it requires you to jump out of an airplane! My husband did it, so I’ll just live vicariously through him on that one. So, if that’s your thing, awesome! But instead, I am going to recommend that you go to iFly. They have different packages depending on whether you’ve been there before and how many time you want to ‘fly’. I mean, what could be more romantic than seeing each other with your windblown faces and stylish flying outfits. I haven’t tried this one myself yet, but every time I drive by I think I should stop in! If you’ve been, let me know in the comments.
#4: Go Paddling
Thanks to our beautiful Arizona weather we can go paddle boarding and kayaking year round, and the folks at Riverbound Sports make it easy for us. You could go to Tempe Town Lake or you could join them for one of their paddle board based fitness classes. Either way, it’ll be a fun way to get outside and get your exercise together. Also, if you get your exercise in, I’m pretty sure that counts as a free pass to eat whatever you want on Valentine’s Day, or something like that.
#5: Stay In
If none of these are jumping out at you and you’d rather enjoy a quiet evening in with your person, that’s great too. I would recommend a night of no phones and no TV; just good music, good wine, and a new recipe you’ve been wanting to try.
So, there you have it! What are you going to plan for your next date night? What was the best date you ever went on? Let me know in the comments, I’d love to hear from you!
See YOU, next Thursday!
