Alright, this is going to be EASY! The weather in Anthem, Arizona is perfect and everyone should move here.. okay BYE!
Just kidding! Okay, well kind of kidding. I do actually think the weather here in Anthem is perfect, but I get it, that’s not what you came to hear.
As your Anthem, Arizona REALTOR®, I often get asked about the weather in Anthem and how it compares to the rest of the valley. In this blog post I will run through our average temperatures throughout the year and chat a little bit about the precipitation (or the lack of).
I’ll even share some tips on staying safe during our Monsoon season, so stick around!
January is the coolest month of the year, here in Anthem. I won’t say cold because well, I used to live in Canada, and I know the rest of the country can deal with some pretty brutal winters. So, in January, our coolest month, the average high is 67°F, and the average low is 42°F. The record low was 17°F… BRRR.
January is when we start to see a lot of the snowbird population coming back to Anthem and we have this awkward mix of snowbirds wearing shorts and t-shirts, and full time residents wearing boots and coats.
Enough about the coolest month of the year, let’s talk about the heat Arizona is known for! Our warmest months of the year are May – September. The hottest month of the year in Anthem is July. The average high that month is 102°F and the average low is 76°F.
But guess what the record high was here in Anthem? Any guesses?……. 120°F!
Now let’s talk about precipitation in Anthem. There really isn’t much of it. The driest month is typically July with an average of 0.12” of rain, and the wettest month is August with an average of 2.35” of rain. Don’t laugh, we get really excited about that little bit of rain.
This increased amount of rain in August is a result of our Monsoon Season. Monsoon season in Arizona runs from June 15 – September 30. This 3.5 month period is when we tend to see half of our annual rainfall. The good news here in Anthem is that we are quite elevated which means that we tend not to experience the flooding that can be found in other parts of the valley. But you can expect to get some really great photos of the amazing lightning during this time!
Alright, are you curious how Anthem compares to the rest of Phoenix’s weather?
When looking at Phoenix as a whole, the coolest month is actually December. Like Anthem, the hottest month of the year, in Phoenix, is July The average high is 106°F, which is 4°F hotter than Anthem, and the average low in July is 84°F which is 8°F higher than Anthem. I don’t know about you but when we are talking about temperatures in the 100°’s, every single degree matters to me, which means that when it matters most, Anthem is actually a little bit cooler! Did I mention how much I love it here?
Surprisingly though, the average precipitation when looking at Phoenix as a whole is a little bit lower. What I will say is that flooding during Monsoon season is a real risk that visitors and residents need to stay alert for. My best advice is to:
- Stay off the highways
- Don’t drive through any large puddles or moving water – it doesn’t take much water for your car to be swept away
- Don’t hike in washes. If you’re going to hike during monsoon season you need to be experienced, alert and well prepared. You’ll want to stick to higher ground and always know your escape route.
- Last but not least, stay home and enjoy the show! The best way to experience Monsoon season is from the comfort of your couch with your camera in hand.
